Transformers: The Last Knight
If there is one interesting thing about this movie it is that I keep on assuming that the next TRANSFORMERS film can't possibly be as bad as the one before it, and yet I continue to be wrong. Michael Bay has sunk to a level of such horrible story telling and entertainment that, I'm guessing, even Hollywood executives are starting to have second thoughts as to whether they should give him a $250 million budget and a green light on his next venture. (Nah, I'm just kidding. Hollywood execs will always throw stupid amounts of money at Bay). ...

All Eyez On Me
The life story of Tupac Shakur is fascinating. It is beautiful, ugly, saint-like, evil, wonderful, and terrible. Unfortunately, the writers and director decided to give us a cleaned up, sugary sweet version of him. Sure, we see the shooting in the park, and we see the shooting in Atlanta, but the first makes 'Pac look like he's trying to diffuse the situation and the second makes it seem like he was a savior. This would have been a much better movie if it had been based on reality. Aside from the story,...

Cars 3
The CARS franchise has made a triumphant return to greatness with this new film. While this isn't the classic the first film is, it is still significantly better than CARS 2. One of the great things about this franchise is that all of the movies have been family-friendly, and this one, like the first, is a film that kids will find to be both suspenseful and compelling. They will also enjoy the fun, new characters introduced into the story. As for the parents, you will find this to be moderately amusing and entertaining. It...

Rough Night
This is a moderately humorous comedy. It isn't a movie that will become an always-on-tv-classic, but seeing it once isn't a bad thing. Scarlett Johansson does a surprisingly good job in her first lead role in a raunchy comedy. In fact, there isn't a sour note with any of the casting choices. But, as usual, Kate McKinnon steals the show. The trailers make this movie look like a fairly simplistic and formulaic comedy, but the full story is actually much more complex and interesting. It is filled with twists (although they are super-easy to...

47 Meters Down
This is an interesting film. It's not great by any stretch of the imagination, but it has moments of brilliance. It also has moments of eye-rolling stupidity. One of those moments is the last five minutes of the movie. Some people are going to think the end of the movie is outstanding, others are going to hate it with the burning passion of a thousand suns. The good news is, either way you're going to feel something. This film is full of great suspense. There were several times where I caught myself...

Megan Leavey
This is a really good film, however it feels like it is more of a Netflix thing than something you typically see on the big screen. It is a movie worth seeing, but not one you need to spend the money necessary to see it in the theater. Kate Mara does a fine job. In fact, this may be one of her better roles to date. She brings a level of emotion and heart to this film that you usually don't see in military movies. The story itself is highly compelling and...

The Mummy
THE MUMMY has all of the makings of a summer blockbuster. Huge budget, the biggest Hollywood action stars, beautiful women, lots of things that blow up, and CGI zombies. The one thing it lacks? It's just not a very good movie. I'll use some "M" words in honor of the title to describe some of the thoughts that went through my head while watching this film: Mediocre, meh, moderately tolerable, and #MyWatchMustBeBroken. Don't get me wrong, this film is great summer fare. If you are looking to see an entertaining, action-packed, we've-got-to-save-the-world...

It Comes At Night
This may be one of the worst titles films ever. Maybe it's just me...and there is always the possibility that I am too stupid to have figured it out...but, at no point in this film does "It" come at night. There are a couple of times something shows up at night, but I wouldn't consider either of those to be "it". Aside from that I'm not really sure if I liked this movie or not. It is relentlessly depressing, has a slow-moving story, very little is ever revealed, and there is not a single moment of redemption....

Wonder Woman
This film was going to be a turning point for DC one way or another. While the DC films have made money, nearly all of them have been poorly received by fans and critics alike. But this movie was different. This one needed to be good because DC has had plenty of time to figure out why their other films weren't well received. This one also needed to be good because it is the first time we've had a major comic book film with a female lead. And this film needed to...

Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie
If you are the parent or guardian of a boy between the ages of 7 and 12, don't even bother with reading this review or any others. Just throw your kid in the car and race to the theater as quickly as possible. They are going to think this it the greatest cinematic feat of all time. For the rest of the movie-going world this movie is okay. The story is fun and unique, but this isn't a movie that needs to be seen in theaters. However, if the kids are driving...

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales
Here's the good news. This episode of PIRATES is significantly better than the fourth movie in this series. The bad news? It's just okay. This film does give you lots of excitement and fun throughout. For that alone it is a movie worth seeing with a huge bucket of popcorn. The action scenes are exciting, the overarching story is interesting, and Captain Jack Sparrow is at his Sparrowiest. The downside is that we are introduced to the spawn of Will Turner and Elizabeth Swan, which should be an exciting turn of events, but...

Baywatch
When I saw the Red Band trailer for this film I was convinced that this was going to be a raunchy, frat-boy, womanizing parody of the world's most watched television show in history. Thankfully, the trailer didn't do the film justice. The film is raunchy, but not nearly to the level that the trailer made it seem. It does have it's frat-boy moments, but the story is actually fairly entertaining and almost a decent mystery. As for the womanizing, well there is that, but it's about 30% objectification of women and 70% objectification...

The Lovers
This is a sad, terrible, depressing, boring, slow waste of time. There is nothing in this film that is redeeming, gratifying or even slightly pleasant. It also has one of the most untrue to real life moments I have ever seen in a movie. (If you are unlucky enough to see this, I'm talking about the scene where he is playing piano and the son walks out the door). The lead characters do a fine job of portraying a couple growing apart, but that is about the only positive thing I can say about this movie....

Alien: Covenant
If you are a Sci-Fi fan, you should absolutely see this movie in the theaters. It is exactly what you would want and expect out of a movie about humans coming into contact with superior beings that want to kill them. If you aren't a Sci-Fi fan, you might still enjoy this movie, but it will feel slow in several parts and jumpy in others. It takes a while for the action to get going, but once it does, buckle in because it is a non-stop rocket ride of action all the way to the end....

Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul
If you've seen the other films in this franchise you know what you are getting yourself into with this film. It's a fun, funny, kid-friendly flick that is totally worth your time and money if your kids are into the books. The new cast does a great job taking over where the last cast left off. (Although, I feel really old seeing Alicia Silverstone as a mom of a teenager). The only thing missing from this movie is Rowley. We only see him for a couple of minutes at the beginning of the film. ...
