Everything, Everything
I never thought we'd see another movie that could capture the essence and the feeling of young love like THE FAULT IN OUR STARS did. I was wrong. EVERYTHING, EVERYTHING is every bit as wonderful, emotional, and full of all the feels as TFIOS. This is an extraordinary film that will have you laughing, crying, and falling in love. You'll be happy, sad, incredibly angry, and filled with joy. And all of that happens in about 100 minutes. The pacing is perfect, the direction and artistic...

King Arthur: Legend of the Sword
Director Guy Ritchie has managed to make King Arthur entertaining. I'm not saying he made a great film, but he did make one that is enjoyable to watch. It is filmed in the traditional Guy Ritchie way, which means there is nothing traditional about the way this movie is filmed. You'll see scenes being rewinded, witty banter over dream scenes, and epic fight scenes with incredible slow-motion imagery. Charlie Hunnam and Jude Law both give excellent performances. In fact, Law is terrifying as the villain. The rest of the cast of characters fill out the story well....

Snatched
Oh, look, it's Amy Schumer playing the exact same character she plays in every single acting gig she's ever done. I feel bad for Goldie Hawn getting wrapped up in this junk and having to deal with such a terrible script. The only reason this movie is even slightly watchable is Wanda Sykes. Without her this would have easily been one of the worst films of the year. Joan Cusack is also a refreshing change of pace from the incessant annoyance that is Amy Schumer. The main characters are obnoxious, self-centered, idiots that...

Norman
NORMAN is a slow burn. For the first 30 minutes I couldn't figure out what I was watching. The next hour was okay, but not as interesting as I wanted it to be. However, the last 30 minutes finish with quite a bang. Once everything comes together and the good and the bad collide head on it makes for a very interesting final act. Maybe it needs the full 90 minutes of setup for the ending to be so powerful, but I really think it could have been about 30 minutes shorter and accomplished the same thing....

Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2
My expectations were exceedingly high for this movie, and it met them! If you haven't seen the first GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY, stop right now and go watch it. The rest of us will wait. Okay, now you understand what an incredibly awesome franchise this is. All other film companies should take notes while watching these two movies and title it, "How to make a great movie". This film is full of great banter, fun action, a compelling story, and great music. It's 2 1/2 hours long, but it feels shorter...

Sleight
This is an interesting film, but even after seeing it I'm not sure if I liked it or not. It is different than what the trailers make it out to be. It is much more of a straight-forward drama than a superhero/action flick. The acting is average with the exception of Storm Reid, the young girl that plays the younger sister Tina. She is brilliant. The story is interesting, but it is a slow burn. There are a couple of times where you feel like the main character is in danger, but for the most part...

The Circle
The premise of this film is fascinating and timely. As we move closer to a real world where every move we make is recorded in some form, this movie will make you think about the consequences of that. Yet, even with an A-list cast and a plot that could quickly become our reality, this film is slow to the point of being almost boring. Neither Tom Hanks nor Emma Watson bring anything to the script to make their characters or the story feel exciting. In fact, there are several moments where their acting is just plain bad....

How To Be A Latin Lover
Eugenio Derbez is a riot! This guy should get a lot more lead comedy roles than he does, because he has the ability to command a film. Adding Salma Hayek and Rob Lowe makes him shine even more. This film is fun and funny. It's full of hilarious visual gags and funny banter. However, most of the really funny stuff was used in the trailer. This could have been a special comedy, instead it is completely formulaic. It has its funny moments, heartwarming moments, and heartbreaking moments, but none of them are surprising...

Born In China
I'm a sucker for a good Disney flick, and when you throw in a baby panda, you had me at "awwwwww". These yearly DisneyNature films have all been outstanding. This on is no exception. The cinematography is incredible, the stories are well told, and it clocks in at an hour and 19 minutes. My only warning about this film is that it is Rated G, but there are "circle of life" moments where animal death is a part of the story. It is handles well and carefully, but if your child is...

Unforgettable
I can't remember the last time I was so annoyingly and brutally bored by a movie as I was while seeing this thing. I'm serious when I say every single scene was either boring or completely ridiculous. There wasn't a single moment in this film where I thought that maybe it was about to take a turn for the better. It just stayed in a relentless race to the depths of the land of suck. It seems quite obvious that none of the lead actors were excited about making this movie, because all of...

Free Fire
Watching FREE FIRE is like watching Quentin Tarantino's THE HATEFUL 8's crazy, super angry, little brother. It is basically violence porn. But it is still a well done film. The entire movie is about a gun deal going bad. About 98% of the story takes place in an abandoned factory. The other 2% takes place just outside the factory. It sounds like it should be a painfully boring film, but there is a surprising amount of character building and compelling content that fills the time. It is...

Gifted
Get ready to have all of the feels if you see this film. You will laugh, cry, get angry, cry some more, guffaw, and then cry until the snot runs into your popcorn. Mckenna Grace is amazing in this movie and her chemistry with Chris Evans is joyous to watch. The story is fascinating, complicated, beautiful, sad, and wonderful. It's the kind of movie that makes you happy you saw it. It does have a few moments that are Soap Operaish, and a couple of plot holes that may...

The Promise
I'm sure there are very few people saying, "hey, let's go see a movie about the Armenian genocide during World War I." That said, I think that most people that see this film will walk away with knowledge they didn't have before, and a compassion for the atrocities that the Armenian people had to endure. The movie is interesting, but it is, and feels, very long. There are several powerful moments, but I think the movie would have had the same impact even if it was cut 30 minutes shorter. Charlotte Le...

Their Finest
In the last 70 years there have been hundreds of films centered around World War II. This is another in that long line, but it is also one that brings a unique perspective to light. It's fascinating to watch the creative screenwriters try to come up with something compelling while being ordered by the Ministry of Defense to add or delete specific scenes in order to keep morale high and try to get the Americans involved in the war. The juxtaposition between the rigidity of the military, the underlying wants of the government...

The Fate of the Furious
Like the other seven films in this franchise, this one is completely ridiculous and over the top fun. As long as you are willing to go with the premise that physics isn't a thing and that the cast are indestructible, you will enjoy this movie. While F8 isn't as good as 6 and 7 were, it is still a film worth seeing on the big screen if you are invested in the franchise. There are enough cool cars, hot people and epic battles to make you almost forget that the plot isn't that great and...
