Star #2
If you didn't see the first JOHN WICK film stop reading this right now and go watch it!

I'll wait.

Hmm dee hmm dee hmm hmmmmm.

Okay, welcome back. Great movie, right?

JOHN WICK: CHAPTER 2 is just as good. Yes, at its core this is just a graphically violent action flick with a guy that is apparently impossible to seriously maim much less kill, but this film is so much more than that.

It continues to expand on one of the most unique and interesting worlds Hollywood has ever created. To think that there might be a place where criminals live by a code of ethics, have their own currency, and their own system of revenge that includes paperwork is just mind-blowingly awesome.

Once again, Keanu Reeves says very little in this film, so that helps a bunch. Ian McShane is superb, and the rest of the cast of characters fit perfectly into the odd mold that is this movie.

One of the things I enjoy the most about this franchise is the cinematography. Even though it is brutal and violent, there are scenes that are strikingly beautiful and powerful. We are also drawn into the scenes through the camera's eye that make you feel like you are in the room with them. Sometimes it feels really cool, other times it is extremely uncomfortable. (The mirror room scene may have you trying hard to breathe again).

Finally, the writing of this story is near perfect. It sets up well for the 3rd installment of the trilogy, but it still feels like there is closure.

While it isn't completely necessary to see the first film before seeing this one, I would highly recommend it. The world is so unique you'll want to understand all of the nuances before you get into this part of the story.
