Old
Congratulations, M. Night Shyamalan. You finally made an average movie. Up to this point Shyamalan has made either outstanding films like The Sixth Sense, or piles of cinematic junk like The Happening. He's made close to 20 films over his career. None of which I could say are just okay...until now. The main issue with this film is that we all already know the "Shyamalan twist" is coming. And if you've seen the trailer, you literally know everything that happens in the movie up until the twist. So, basically, you have to sit...

Joe Bell
Every year there are about a dozen films that come out that have a powerful and emotional story and message, but the film itself is average at best. This movie falls into that category. It is 100% worth seeing because of the story, you'll just have to endure the way the story is being told. This is based on a true story. If you know the story of Joe Bell and his son, don't tell anyone anything before they see this movie. If you don't know about Joe, make sure you keep it that way before...

Space Jam: A New Legacy
Why? Why did Warner Brothers feel it necessary to give us another Space Jam 25 years after the first?* Was there a secret underground society begging for this movie to be made? I can't think of a single person that I have ever known who has ever had the thought, "you know what we need? Another Space Jam movie!" And I know people that have worked and do work at WB! This is a snoozefest filled with terrible acting, it puts a terrible twist on a...

Escape Room: Tournament of Champions
If you saw the first film in this franchise you know exactly what to expect out of this one. And it will give you exactly what you expect. Nothing more, and nothing less. Just like the first film, the characters are drawn into the game in an unsuspecting, but very high stakes way, and from then on it's a frantic race to find all of the clues and escape before they all die. It does have several moments of suspense, and there are a couple of twists along the way that make the story more compelling,...

Black Widow
It's been 11 years since Scarlett Johansson gave us our first look at the character we know as Black Widow. From the first moment Tony Stark laid eyes on Natalie Rushman we all knew she was going to be something special. For a lot of fans she has been one of their favorite Avengers, and now she gets her own story to show off her skills and give us a better look into what makes her tick. I know a lot of people have been confused by the timeline of this film. For reference, this story...

The Forever Purge
Based on the first film, it's hard to believe that this franchise has lasted for five films, but thanks to the end of the second film and all of the third and fourth films this has turned into a solid and compelling series. One of the best aspects of these movies is their cultural relevance. They take current political situations, squeeze them out to the extreme and force you to answer some difficult questions. I'm sure there are some that will find this film offensive with some of the questions it poses, but most people will find it...

The Boss Baby: Family Business
Most animated kids movies have some quaint little takeaway that hits home at the end of the film. Something like, "family and love are more important than anything else." Then sometimes those films are successful enough to get the green light on a sequel. And then a few of those sequels take that tidy little takeaway from the first film and spend the entire 90 minutes trying to hammer it into your brain like a railroad spike. This film is that hammer. I really wish this would have been a better film....

F9: The Fast Saga
When you have nine of anything you are bound to have a couple of great ones and a couple of stinkers. And while this film doesn't fall low enough to be in the stinker category, it is still a long way from being a great film. One of the things that has always been great about this franchise is that it avoids taking itself too seriously. Until now. This movie feels more like a soap opera than a FF film. It has way too many moments where the plot drags along, and way too many moments...

12 Mighty Orphans
This film is inspired by a true story, and what a story it is. There is no way a movie could live up to the real-life story, but the people behind this film did everything they could to get it as close as possible. Unfortunately, it doesn't quite play as well as I would have hoped. Is it a good and inspiring film? Yes. Is it a great film that makes you want to hit the field? No. Is it one that you should see? Sure, if you like underdog sports movies. I...

The Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard
Very rarely is a sequel as good as the original. Even more rare is when the sequel is better than the first. This movie can raise a toast to being night and day better than its predecessor. The first one was fun, but too long. This one is downright hilarious all the way through, never feels like it is dragging, and has a much better plot. Salma Hayek is the true star of this movie. She out-funnies Ryan Reynolds, she out-potty mouths Samuel L. Jackson, and she out-actions both of them. All...

In The Heights
Hamilton creator, Lin Manuel-Miranda has not slowed down one bit since his smash hit took the world by storm. But you may not know that he wrote the music for In The Heights long before. In fact, In The Heights finished its long Broadway run a full four years before Hamilton debuted. And now he has helped turn it into an incredible big screen production. This is a beautifully choreographed film with incredible music and a powerful story. Nearly every scene is captivating with its colors and movement. You'll feel like you are in the middle...

Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway
Peter and crew are back again and just as wacky and funny as they were the first time around. It is another episode that will keep the kids laughing and does just enough to keep the parents entertained as well. As with the first film, this one is filled with physical comedy and silly hijinks. If you or your children are fans of cartoon humor, you will find this movie to be hilarious. Nearly every scene ends in some form of chaos. The downside to this film is that some...

Spirit Untamed
If you have been wanting to get back to the theaters and see something with your whole family, look no further than Spirit Untamed. This is a fun, exciting, and touching film that will entertain the kids and keep the parents engaged as well. The animation is beautiful, the story is interesting, there are plenty of jokes to keep you laughing, and there are several heartfelt moments to give you a range of emotions. It's the kind of film that a 6 year old will enjoy, and so will a 12 year old. And parents, you...

A quiet Place Part II
John Krasinski is my Hollywood hero. He took a fantastic story, added another dimension to it, and gave us another smart, terrifying, and suspenseful film. And what's even better about this movie is that he fixes the one, big complaint that most of us had about the first film. We finally get to see how the whole thing started. If you have not seen the first movie, it is a must watch. Not only because it is so good, but because this one assumes you already know everything from the first film. If you try to watch...

Cruella
Disney has proven that they have the ability to make great live-action remakes of some of their best animated works. This, however, is a new twist. Giving us a live action back story of an animated villain was probably a tough decision to make, but I'm glad the project got the green light. This is a wild ride right from the start. It's filled with action, comedy, intrigue, and wonderful characters. The story is juicy and filled with all sorts of interesting twists and turns. It clocks in at just over two hours, but it never felt...
