So far 2020 has been a crazy year for film. Now, we have all of the theaters shut down for who know how long. Could this be the thing that changes the movies forever now that current theatrical releases are being released digitally? Only time will tell. In the meantime, here are several films that should be coming out this year that might be worth a trip to the theater after we are through social distancing.
LEGALLY BLONDE 3 - May 8
Elle Woods is coming back to make our lives a little more legal and a tad more blonde.
ARTEMIS FOWL - May 29
Disney gets a crack at turning one of the most popular middle grade book series of all time into a blockbuster film.
WONDER WOMAN 1984 - June 5
Gal Gadot returns to her superhero role and takes on a terrible decade for fashion.
SOUL - June 19
Disney/Pixar have become the masters at creating deeply emotional, yet fully accessible animated films. This looks to be another in that category.
MULAN - Unknown Release Date
This live-action remake of the Disney classic was supposed to be released in March, but is on hold now until theaters open again.
A QUITE PLACE PART II - Unknown Release Date
The first film in this franchise was a massive blockbuster. This one looks to follow well. Now it just needs a new release date after being pulled from theaters due to the pandemic.
TOP GUN: MAVERICK - June 24
Tom Cruise returns to his most iconic role in what looks to be an action-packed, high-adrenaline film.
FREE GUY - July 3
This has the look and feel of a comedic version of THE MATRIX. If nothing else, it could be unique, and it stars Ryan Reynolds.
GHOSTBUSTERS: AFTERLIFE - July 10
This is kind of a reboot, kind of a continuation of the original films. Let's all hope that it is at least kind of good.
TENET - July 17
The trailers for this film make it look like it could be one of the best sci-fi thriller/mystery movies to come along in several years.
JUNGLE CRUISE - July 24
A movie based on the DisneyLand ride where every wannabe comedian begins? Yes, please!
PETER RABBIT 2: THE RUNAWAY - August 7
The first film in this series was surprisingly great. Hopefully, this one will follow suit.
BILL AND TED FACE THE MUSIC - August 21
No. Way. WAY! (If you don't get that, then this movie is not for you). For the rest of us: Be excellent to each other, and party on, dudes!
NO TIME TO DIE - November 25
This really looks to be Daniel Craig's last go as James Bond. Where will the series go from here? Maybe the movie will give us a hint.
I know there are a ton of other great films coming out this year that are not on this list. Let's all just hope we can get through this crazy time right now and get back to seeing great movies at the theater soon!
