Wow! We may have lost the man and the talent of Chadwick Boseman, but he left us one final, beautiful, gift with his performance in MA RAINEY'S BLACK BOTTOM. And while it is a gift to us, it is also a performance that will most assuredly win him many acting awards.
Add to his astounding performance the earth-shattering performance of Viola Davis and you have the beginnings of a very special film. I will be shocked if either Boseman or Davis are left out of the acting races. As of now, I consider both of them to be the front runners.
To make it even better, their skills were put to use in a great film. It is a powerful, moving story told with compelling dialogue and beautiful music. The costumes are amazing, the sets and the cinematography add just the right look, and the pacing is perfect leading up to an unexpected ending.
This is a film that you will want to see at least twice so you can catch all of the nuance, but also because it is so good. This will be a big time awards contender in several categories.
