Welp. There is no need to go any further in the nomination process for best actor this year. The Academy might as well go ahead and mail the Oscar to Joaquin Phoenix's house. I'd bet the mortgage payment that there won't be a better acting performance this year. As for the movie. I loved it. And I hated it. This is, so far, my favorite film of the year. It is incredible and terrible in every way. I was completely taken in by the story, and yet so repulsed by...

This is one of those, "Oh, what could have been?" movies. It's got an incredible cast and a fantastic plot. Unfortunately, the writing and directing ruined the whole thing. And that isn't an easy thing to do when you are working with the likes of Joaquin Phoenix, John C. Reilly, and Jake Gyllenhaal. First, the pacing is all off. Clocking in at just shy of 2 1/2 hours, INHERENT VICE is a slow-moving, odd, quirky and nearly useless film. While Joaquin Phoenix does an incredible job in his role, I found myself several times trying to figure out why this movie was even made. It's not terribly entertaining, it isn't a ground-breaking piece of...

When I first heard about the premise of HER I thought, "that sounds creepy and weird." Then I went to see it and thought, "that was creepy and weird." Don't get me wrong, the movie is well done and very well acted, especially by Joaquin Phoenix, but it's still creepy and weird. It's played out in a not-too-distant future and is set up in a way that makes it seem like it is something that could actually happen. That's probably why it came across as creepy and weird. There are people that will love every aspect of this...
