As the father of five kids I have seen what feels like several thousand episodes of DORA THE EXPLORER. When I heard about the live action film I was wondering how they were going to take something so simple and turn it into something fun for the kids but also exciting enough to keep parents from being insanely bored. I shouldn't have worried, because they killed it. This movie is so much fun for kids and adults. There are hilarious throwbacks to the cartoon, there are moments of irreverence. and there are poop jokes....

This has been rumored to be Clint Eastwood's final film. If that is the case, it is a wonderful, artistic, piece of cinema that is worthy of his long legacy. This isn't the kind of film that is overly exciting or thrilling, but it is an interesting story about family and generational differences. Overall, it is a well done film that completes everything it sets out to accomplish. The only downside to the movie is that it has one massive plot hole that should have been addressed early on in the making...

If you don't know the story behind the first soldiers into Afghanistan after the 9/11 attacks it is truly incredible. They were up against insurmountable odds, dealing with people they couldn't fully trust, and were on a timeline that was all but impossible to meet. But they are U.S. soldiers, so they did it. This film does a good job or telling their story. Not great, but good. It helps you to feel their frustrations and concerns while fighting a battle like they had never fought before.
