If you are a fan of the slow, cerebral style of Sci-Fi films then this one is made for you. It takes a long time to get to the really interesting stuff, but there is enough going on in the first 90 minutes to keep your attention. I do feel though that I could have walked into this movie with about 30 minutes to go and understood it and enjoyed it just about the same.
This movie gets its groove in the last 15 or 20 minutes and from there on it is a wild ride to the "holy cow" finish. The last 30 seconds of the film will rock your world and break your brain. However, as with most Sci-Fi flicks there are several plot holes that will annoy you if you can't let them go.
I was somewhat disappointed in the acting. Everyone in the movie is forever melancholy. There is one moment of levity in the entire film and it is almost jolting because it feels so out of place compared to everything else around it. With very few exceptions all of the dialogue is delivered in a near-monotonous tone that is barely above a whisper.
The best part of this movie are the special effects. They are incredible. It's almost worth the price of admission just to see the set designs and the effects.
If you don't like Sci-Fi this is not the movie for you. It is about as Sci-Fi as Sci-Fi gets. If you love a good nerd flick, this one will give you a lot to ponder.
