This is basically a poor man's version of 8 MILE. And while that might sound like an insult, it isn't. This is a very fine film with incredible music, good drama, and some fun along the way.

The only thing that keeps this film from being something I would consider to be award-worthy is the acting. There are times where the actors aren't selling it like they should. The director could have done well with some more rehearsals and a few more takes.

There isn't a lot in this movie that makes it worth seeing in theaters, but it is really good and the music sounds great through a large audio system. So, if you have the time, you should check out PATTI CAKE$.

If you were a fan of 8 MILE then you are going to like this movie, too.
