Most animated kids movies have some quaint little takeaway that hits home at the end of the film. Something like, "family and love are more important than anything else." Then sometimes those films are successful enough to get the green light on a sequel. And then a few of those sequels take that tidy little takeaway from the first film and spend the entire 90 minutes trying to hammer it into your brain like a railroad spike.

This film is that hammer.

I really wish this would have been a better film. The first one was great, and this one has moments of greatness, but overall it is okay at best. There is nothing noteworthy, unique, or worthy of making the trek to see this in the theaters. Especially since there are plenty of family films available right now that are so much better than this one.

It does have a few good laughs and a couple of really fun action scenes, and there are a couple of throwbacks that fans of the first film will enjoy, so if you do end up seeing it, you won't be completely disappointed.

If you can stream it on Peacock, it might be worth it if the price is low enough, but I wouldn't pay any more than about $10 for this one.

Rated: PG

Release Date: March 31, 2017

Director: Tom McGrath

Stars: Alec Baldwin, Tobey Maguire, Jimmy Kimmel, Lisa Kudrow

Plot: A baby comes to Tim's family, but he's not a typical baby. He's a baby on a mission.

Clint Says: Wait until after opening weekend, but see this in theaters

This is a fun film for the whole family. Children will love it because it is silly and funny, adults will love it because it is smart and unique. This is one of the few animated films that is worth spending the money to enjoy it with the whole family at the theater.

For the kids, this movie is non-stop laughter. Just imagine how many potty jokes you can fit into a 90 minute movie about babies. They are everywhere! I don't recall my young girls laughing during a movie as much as they did in THE BOSS BABY.

For the parents, it is worth it just to see your children in such a joyful mood for an hour and a half, but beyond that this movie is really good. The plot is interesting and surprisingly complex, the story movies at a nice pace, and there aren't any moments where you feel like you are taking one for the team by watching a kids' movie.

Alec Baldwin is spot on as the boss baby and the other characters round out the fun.

Go put on your big people pants and head to the theaters now!
