The premise of this film is fascinating and timely. As we move closer to a real world where every move we make is recorded in some form, this movie will make you think about the consequences of that.
Yet, even with an A-list cast and a plot that could quickly become our reality, this film is slow to the point of being almost boring. Neither Tom Hanks nor Emma Watson bring anything to the script to make their characters or the story feel exciting. In fact, there are several moments where their acting is just plain bad.
The story is told in a jumpy way, implying that we should care about certain people and events, but giving us no reason to care. And while the movie makes interesting arguments for why we should all be under constant surveillance, you never really feel like anyone is truly sold on the idea.
This film will give you something to talk about with your friends, and it does have an interesting twist at the end, but it isn't a movie that will move you.
